Pastor's Update

  Pastor's Update

06/01/2020

As we start a new month we must keep our focus where it should be. Hebrews 12:2 reminds us that our eyes must be "fixed" on Jesus. This means we "look to" Him. Everything we do in the ministry and working with people in our community must be done with keeping our eyes "fixed" on Jesus. We do not look to the left or the right to see what we might be missing out on in life. It does not matter. By living with Jesus as our number one in life, everything else will fall into place. Life's struggles will not seem so big and obstacles will seem small. Because we know that ultimately He is in control.

05/25/2020

As a church, we had chosen to return to worship on May 17 while still observing the CDC guidelines. This has been an exciting regathering of the BBC family as each one has been sharing the way God has worked work with them. This week we will be gathering again for prayer service Wednesday at 7:00 pm. We are also adding the evening service this coming Sunday at 5:00 pm. I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

05/12/2020

This coming Sunday will mark the return of the church to the facility. Please familiarize yourself with the changes in the updates below. Sunday we will be a special time as we will have opportunity to share testimony with each other. What to Expect When We Return to the Church Facility

1 Corinthians 10:31 reads, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” This verse has guided every decision and actions since COVID-19 closed the facility eight weeks ago. Our testimony of compliance to the guidelines and restrictions is paramount to our presence as Berean Baptist Church ministering in East Naples. We want to have a good reputation in our community for the sole purpose of honoring God.

The date of reopening is fast approaching. There have been some questions as to what it will look like when the services resume. I have read dozens of governmental documents that have spelled out restrictions and orders over the past eight weeks to make sure we are in compliance as a church. With that said, I have prepared the following “What to Expect When We Return to the Church Facility Document” to better aid us in adapting to the new temporary changes. I encourage everyone to read through the document and call (239-774-2819) if there are any questions.

  • We will have to continue social distancing when we return. What that means is people need to stay at least six feet from each other.
  • There should be no hand shaking or any other type of contact between people.
  • There will be hand sanitizer available for use. Everyone is encouraged to use it appropriately.
  • Each room of the facility has been arranged to accommodate the social distancing guidelines from the CDC. Please do not rearrange the chairs.
  • Every other row in the auditorium has been restricted. Please space yourself accordingly in the open rows. Families should sit together without having to social distance. But all other families should sit six feet away from other families.
  • Offerings will be taken by the placement of a box or offering plate as you enter the auditorium. We will not be passing the offering plates for a period of time. Please use the offering envelopes for privacy reasons.
  • If you would like to wear a mask, please wear one. They are not required. There will be a few available for people that need one. If you take one, it is yours to keep.
  • If you are not feeling well, please stay home and listen to the sermon online.
  • The facility will be cleaned twice a week for a period of time. If you can help wipe things down and disinfect, please volunteer to help.
  • If you happen to come down with COVID-19, please let us know, This will help contain the spread and alert others to be cautious with their own health. Any reports of COVID-19 exposure notifications will be kept confidential. This means that your name will not be released to any person for any reason.

This list of steps is vital to keep everyone healthy and safe in our church family. One case of COVID-19 could mean the facility closes for another two weeks. Please remember that this is not our new normal way of worshiping. These are temporary steps to help our church get back to worshiping together without spreading any cases of COVID-19 to each other.

Here is the reopening schedule:

Sunday, May 17 - Sunday School and Morning service only.
Sunday, May 24 - Sunday School and Morning service only.
Wednesday, May 27 - Wednesday service resumes.
Sunday, May 31 - Sunday School and Morning service continues and the Evening service resumes.

The reopening schedule is subject to change based on CDC restrictions and the Governor's guidelines. Please follow the website and Facebook for updates.

4/28/2020

Right now, there is a strong desire by many in the communities around the country to reopen and get back to normal living. As believers, we have the responsibility to be patient. Philippians 4:6 is a good reminder to remain patient.

Our patience lived out before others is an amazing opportunity to witness to people. Galatians 6:9 reads, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Continue to be patient with others and with situations. It may prompt someone to ask about the hope of salvation within you.

There is a detailed schedule that will be published on the website (www.bbcnaples.org) as we get closer to reopening our doors. Right now, the target date to reopen in May 17. There are still several guidelines in place that need to change before we can open and worship collectively. Please pray that they are lifted soon.

Also, please continue to send in your offerings and tithes. You can drop them off during the week or mail them to the facility. The offerings have been strong during these trying times. Let's continue to support the work of the ministry.

Some people have been asking about the Facebook page. If you have not found it yet, simply click on the link on the Home Page.  It is located at the top of the page on the right. There are three links. One is for Facebook and the other two are for Twitter and Instagram. Facebook is the only social media platform that is being used right now as the other two are underdevelopment. Once active, all three will help us reach a lot of people in Naples.

The Following reopening schedule is subject to change based on CDC restrictions and the Governor's guidelines. Please follow the website and Facebook for updates concerning the following reopening schedule:

Sunday, May 17 - Sunday School and Morning service only.
Sunday, May 24 - Sunday School and Morning service only.
Wednesday, May 27 - Wednesday service resumes.
Sunday, May 31 - Sunday School and Morning service continues and the Evening service resumes.

Once we are able to follow this schedule, there will be CDC guidelines to follow. There will be postings as to what to expect for the first service.

4/22/2020

These are trying times that we all are walking through. We can know for certain that none of it has taken our God by surprise. Please continue to pray for each other. 4/12/2020

Today is a very special day as it is Easter Sunday. It is the day that all people in Christ celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. The audio version of the sermon is available online and the video version is ready for viewing on the Facebook page. Have a blessed day.

4/8/2020

There is a lot of information that is floating around in the news regarding the coronavirus. This makes it hard to know what facts are the most current. But there is one source of news that we can rely on to be 100 percent all of the time. And that is the Bible.

2 Timothy 3:6-7 remind us that "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."

Everything we need to know is right in front of our eyes. By knowing the Word of God, we will be able to view the news of the world from a biblical perspective. It will help us to have hope and not fear.  I trust that by now the uncertainty of the day has turned into a new normal for everyone.

The church facility will be closed through the month of April. Our hope is that we can reopen the first Sunday in May. I can report that offerings have been strong. Please continue to be faithful in giving your tithes and offerings. We still have the duty to manage our resources and funding the ministry. We have seen an increase in traffic on the website and the Facebook page. Praise the Lord that He has given us the means to continue to share the message of the Word during these hard times.

Just a personal update. Everyone in our family is doing well. Sherri continues to be called into work daily since she works for Collier County Government. We praise the Lord for her new job because we know that He is the One that provided it for her. All of the kids are learning from home, so there is no interruption in their studies. Ryan has been accepted to Faith Baptist Bible College for the coming term. He is excited to start his journey as he focuses on studying Missions.

Continue to pray that things continue to get better around the nation. Pray for our leaders daily. And pray for each other. Below you will find the updated prayer sheet.

Please continue to pray for one another. If you have updates or new prayer requests, please call the church and let us know. I hope everyone has a wonderful day. Stay safe and be well.

4/3/2020

Pray for Betty Fieldhouse today as she is having surgery on her right eye. It is a delicate surgery given there are some complications they have to work around.

4/1/2020

The state of Florida has just announced a mandatory stay at home order for everyone for the next 30 days. The ministry of the church will continue from an at-home position. What that means is that people are encouraged to stay home and follow all the guidelines that are being placed on the general public.

These are trying times, but God is still in control. The church office will be open, but on a limited basis. We asked that you call instead of coming by in person if the matter can be solved over the phone. The church phone number is (239) 774-2819.

The church still has financial obligations that need to met on a weekly basis. We are asking that all tithes and offerings be mailed in. The address is 1851 Country Barn Road, Naples, FL 34112. Our desire is to make sure you stay healthy and are not put in a position of violating the stay at home order. Pastor will continue to facilitate ministries from home and the office. Sermons will be recorded and upload as we move forward.

Paul stated in Philippians 4:1a "Thereforem, my beloved and longed-for brethren." His desire was to be with the brethren. I know tht each one of us long for the time to be back together. But this parting is only for a short-time. We can still be connected through the technology that is available to us today. Pray for each other and we will see everyone later.

4/1/2020

Philippians 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

This text applies for use today. All of us have heard by now that the CDC guidelines are extended to May 1. This has caused many to be anxious and to stress about the long road ahead of the nation. But God tells us not to be anxious. We rather should pray and be thankful for how God works in our lives. And then, He will keep out hearts and minds grounded. This is all possible because of Jesus. When you find yourself worrying over everything step back and just pray over it all. Then you can live in peace knowing that God has control.

Please continue to pray for each other. By now everyone should have been called by the Outreach and Care Team. If you have not received a call, please call the church office and give us a number where you can be reached. We do not want anyone to be left out. Everyone at Berean Baptist Church is part of a family. And that family cares for each other.

As always, you can drop off your offerings and tithes Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The work of the ministry has not stopped. We are making improvements to the way we reach people and meet their needs. Some of you have connected with the Facebook page for the church. If you have not already, then please do so today. I have started posting videos of the audio sermon for those that want to watch. I also post the audio version for everyone else. Our Facebook page reaches over 500 people in Naples and several other states and countries. The ministry has grown in ways that were once thought to be impossible. Our goal is to share Christ with the lost.

3/28/2020

The audio of Sunday's sermon is now available. We are also trying to produce a video version of the sermon. I know many of you like to watch and listen at the same. We are also working on a live version of the preaching that if all goes well this week we will be able to do soon. Watch for smaller video excerpts to appear on Facebook. Continue to pray and be well!!

3/27/2020

There are a lot of things that we as the church need to be in prayer for. Be in prayer for the Commissioners of Collier Country. They have a heavy weight on their shoulders as do all business owners and public officials. Collier County voted unanimously to not issue a mandatory stay at home order. But that could change at any time.

It has also been decided that the church facility remain closed through April 12th. I know that we would all love to be together for Resurrection Sunday, but the last thing we would want to see is a sweeping infection through our own church family. I would like to see an Easter Service when we all get back together. It would have to happen in the fall when our traveling family members are back with us. Just something to look forward to.

I am also experimenting with video recording along with audio recording the sermons. I will provide more details as that develops. Please be in prayer for me as I navigate our church family through these uncharted waters.

The health of my family is very good right now. We have had no serious issues. The older kids are staying at home and continuing their education online. Our prayer is that no one from Berean Baptist Church falls sick during these times. You will be getting another call from the church office on Monday providing more details about the church closures. You will also get another call from our Outreach and Care Team. They are my eyes and ears as they bring all requests, praises, and needs to my attention.

3/27/2020

The new Quick Reference Directory for the church is ready for pickup. Please stop by the office to pick up your copy. This directory will replace all copies that are currently in circulation.

3/27/2020

Just a reminder that all services are cancelled this coming Sunday. We do have a limited number of bulletins printed in the office if you would like to come by and pick one up. The offering box is still in the church foyer for you to drop off your tithes and offerings. On Monday, calls will be made to provide updates as to what we will be doing in the coming weeks. The offering last week was
extraordinary given the circumstances. It totaled $2914.15. We are praising the Lord for His goodness and provision.

New Prayer and Praises

Praises:
Evelyn's cancer markers dropped by 20 points.
Dawn is feeling better.
Leigh's son is returning to work and is doing better.

Requests:

Leigh's are requesting prayer for church outreach. They would like prayer for their son and his alcoholism.

3/25/2020

1 Corinthians 10:31 reads, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." I want to encourage everyone as we continue to watch the news and pray for our country and leaders to live for God's glory. How a Christian reacts should exemplify Christ. A lost and panicking world is looking for hope. And that hope can only be found in Christ.

The services this week will continue to be cancelled until the quarantine is lifted. If the need arises for the services to be closed for additional time, the decision will be made early next week. The last thing we want to do is open prematurely and see some of our church family fall ill. It is everyone’s desire to see each person back in the church service.

I know that everyone is longing to be together so we all can worship as one in Christ. Very soon these days will all be but a distant memory. 1 Thessalonians 2:17 reads, “But we, brethren, having been taken away from you for a short while-- in person, not in spirit-- were all the more eager with great desire to see your face.” May this be the hope of everyone that calls Berean Baptist Church their church home.

I am providing everyone with the most updated prayer list through 3/25/2020:
